Violets came and daffodils. But the stillness and the brightness of the day were as strange as the chaos and tumult of night, with the trees standing there, and the flowers standing there, looking before them, looking up, yet beholding nothing, eyeless, and so terrible.

- Virginia Woolf, To the Lighthouse

Monday, September 28, 2009

Last few weeks have been pretty fun. Sometimes I think I am having too much fun, but I mean this is my last semester so it's all good.

We went camping this weekend at Enchanted Rock. We were pretty late getting there; we had originally wanted to see the sunset from the top of the rock. We got there at around 7:45 and even when we raced up there the sun had already set. It was still beautiful, though, and we were able to see all the stars come out. Damn, there were a lot of stars. There were so many stars it was hard to spot constellations because it was so cluttered. The sky was so clear that we could even see the outline of the Milky Way. Damn.

Anyways, we spent about two hours on the rock taking pictures, playing guitar and chilling. Finally, we came down and then it was a 35 minute hike to a camping spot. It was absolutely dark so we had to use our flashlights to see... but that's what made it awesome. We pitched our tents and explored a little. Our campsite was totally isolated, no one was near us. Just us and nature. We spread out a tarp and looked at the stars for a few hours. We saw a ton of shooting stars, I saw like 20 myself.

There's more but, those were the best parts. Best camping trip ever.

Ly Xa

Monday, August 24, 2009

It's my last year...
Friday, June 05, 2009

Conversation between my little cousin and my teenage cousin

Michael: Hey trini can you wait for me when i take a bath? I'm not in it just to build muscle for looks, but to condition myself to be athletic and competitive. I stayed true to a schedule of lifting weights on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays while doing boxing conditioning training Tuesdays and Thursdays. In addition to this, I played tennis maybe three to four times a week as well as basketball and football. All in all, I'm probably the most fit I've ever been in my life... not just strength but conditioning, stamina and endurance.

I really owe it to anh Hieu who got me into shape. He really pushed me to my limits everyday and though I've never in my life had issues with weight I am much leaner and stronger. This summer, however, I will be by myself and totally accountable for everything I do. I plan to push myself harder in the summer than this semester.

Why do I do it? Besides just being healthy and fit it is a mental challenge for me. Each time I workout I want to push that mental barrier and get my body to go beyond itself. I feel that often I am capable of much more than I know except my mind holds me back.

So this summer, besides getting stronger overall and becoming a better athlete and boxer I will get a 6-pack. This is a challenge between anh Hieu and myself. By the end of the summer, we must both have it. In a sense, we are pushing each other since we expect each other to have it by the end of the summer. Let's see how far my mind and body can go.

Houston Rockets - No Stars, All Heart

I am so impressed and proud of my Rockets team. They come out every night and play hard; through adversity, injuries, and negative media. Our star talent, Tracy McGrady, went down. Our shot rejecting team motivator, Mutumbo, went down. And our rock foundation the Great Wall Yao Ming went down. No one would have thought we'd be in this series, yet here we are. Hell, they even predicted we'd lose to the Trailblazers. What now?

Look at all the stars on the Lakers. Bynum, Odom, Gasol, Bryant... all these players are fantastic with great futures. The Rockets? We have an assortment of good, but not ultra-talented players, who play tough every night with teamwork. I mean, what analysts talked about Aaron Brooks before the playoffs started? No one. Who talked about Shane Battier's defensive prowess? No one. And even though our soldier and crux of our team Yao Ming went down we not only beat the Lakers, but we dominated them. Lakers sweeping the Rockets for the series? Gimme a break.

We don't need a Kobe, a Lebron, or a Wade. We don't need to play dirty, throwing elbows and trash talking. This is why I love the Houston Rockets, the epitome of hard work and teamwork.

I Always Dream About Donuts

So I was talking with Victoria on AIM and I was just thinking; my friends, or real people for that matter, hardly ever appear in my dreams. There is one thing that does appear a lot in my dreams, though, donuts. It usually happens when I take a nap when I'm hungry. The dream is very simple, I walk into a donut store and buy a shitload of donuts. Then the dream is over, I never eat the donuts.

It's kind of weird because when I go to actually buy donuts I'll only eat one or two and then I'm done. Maybe it's because I hardly eat sweets and my body craves it? No idea.

Also Krispy Kreme donuts are horrible, Shipley donuts are the best!

Lakers Fans

From ESPN:
Chris Sheridan, ESPN.com: Lakers fans are a different breed, and when you tell them you think their team is going to lose, they take it personally. Trust me, I have an inbox full of their angry messages, and my prediction of Rockets in seven games was the topic du jour on L.A. sports radio for the better part of Monday afternoon.

Sheridan also picked us to win over the Blazers. Someone at ESPN has their head on right.

Yao Ming is a Soldier

Yao will always have my respect and admiration
